# Constellation stories, October 2026

The 47 short summaries are original educational paraphrases by Sky Orbit, released with its MIT custom code. They are not copied encyclopedia entries or quotations. Greek/Roman variants are explicitly not treated as one definitive mythology. The source links in each entry point to the references used. Astronomy and mythology are kept separate.

Primary references consulted:
- Chandra X-ray Observatory constellation histories, discovered through its official index: https://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/constellations/index.html . Individual source URLs are carried in the data.
- Hyginus, Astronomica Book II, Mary Grant translation, Theoi Classical Texts Library: https://www.theoi.com/Text/HyginusAstronomica.html and https://www.theoi.com/Text/HyginusAstronomica2.html . Summaries refer to the underlying myths; no translation text is reproduced.
- M. R. Wright, A Dictionary of Classical Mythology, University of Patras Centre for the Study of Myth and Religion: https://mythandreligion.upatras.gr/english/m-r-wright-a-dictionary-of-classical-mythology/ . This supports distinguishing an uncertain identity or lack of an independent myth from an invented story.

For Lupus, Libra, Equuleus and Corona Australis the cards emphasize traditional iconography and uncertainty rather than assigning an unsupported unique hero. Argo Navis is represented by the existing full-ship artwork; bright-star links draw from Carina, Puppis and Vela. All other bright-star links are computed from existing Hipparcos/D3-Celestial catalog memberships and magnitudes, not guessed positions. Original artwork credits and separate licenses remain unchanged.
